I am back to join this week's SHS!! It's been actually about three months since I last posted. Amazing that it doesn't really seem that long but it has just been made crazy busy the last few months. IHF - Best Face Photo from 2011

It was not easy going through the year of photos to pick one "Best Face Photo" for the year. So many to choose from that were my favorites, tough chosing one. But, I kept conming back to this one.

My husband and I drove to Texas late last summer so that I could shoot my nephew's Senior Pictures. I was so ecstatic that I was able to make the trip to do it.

What can I say about this face. He is quiet, smart, great at making people laugh, loves his family to no end, has a huge kind heart, loves his 2000 Mustang and has the looks of a movie star....so Handsome!!!

I love this young man and I am so proud of him. And therefore I submit this photo, of my nephew Christian, as my "Best Face Photo from 2011".

Well I sure have taken a long break from blogging and participating in my favorite weekly challenges. Been extremely busy with, well just life. Family coming into town, niece moving to a college town, a trip to Disney, couple trips to Miami, shot a wedding, a baptism, and two of the cutest little girls around.

Luckily, just this weekend I did the Fabulous Ms L's 3 month's photos and what a delightful little peanut she was. Here she is with her favorite pink bear just laying around in the front yard enjoying the breeze under her favorite tree in her front yard.

This week I decided to to my Scavenger Hunt early since I was going to be busy all day on Sunday. I had an interesting and fun time figuring out the Color Wheel (Monocramatic/Analogous) it put a whole different look on things as I was looking for something to complete that prompt. The Scarf prompt is the only one I dug into the archives. I had one of me, from earlier this month with a scarf wrapped around my hair (very Elizabeth Taylor looking .. haha)sitting in a boat, but since I used myself for the low key I didn't want to overdo ME!! LOL

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my interpretations and I look forward to checking out some of the very amazing shots from all of you.

What an amazing week we had. We drove up to New Jersey on Sunday (082811) to visit friends and family. Visited Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, went into Pennsylvania to Peddlers Village, and went into NY to see The Jersey Boys (musical). Great friends, amazing food and just a great time.

Here we are once again at Scavenger Hunt Sunday! This week was a stressful week with the threat of the Hurricane Irene coming in and through Florida. {Show off Shot} for the week....

So I was visiting Natalie's Blog (checking out her amazing work) and ran into this curious little blog (hosted by And then, she [snapped] ) so I thought I'd join in the FUN this week.

My husband had told me about Cattails and how as a young boy they would pick them, take them home, put them out to dry and then once dry, they would burn them. And the smell was heavenly. So he brought one home the other day and last night we burned one. I have to agree that the smell is quite awesome. He told me that that smell took him right back to his youth. Funny how certain things, whether smell, food, places, etc. take you right back to those younger, carefree days.

Well, I celebrated another Birthday this past week and my honey sure did make is special along with all my family and facebook friends with all their birthday wishes. I really feel blessed to be surrounded by such great people, including those here in the Blogging World.

For this week I actually finished all my prompts on Saturday, and I had (again) lots of fun using my creativity and interpreting them! Here are my interpretations for this week.

"Against the Light"
I am in love with the sun flare here.

"Frame Within A Frame"
If I was to tell you that I was outside and my husband was inside (the house) would you believe it?
Yup...he was inside and yes I was outside and it was nighttime. The light came from the kitchen window where he stood.

"Best Part of Your Day"
I guess the best part of my day would be when I tell my hubby after dinner (in the middle of the week), come on let's go get some shots and he so willingly always goes. Because, my favorite part (time) of the day is when the sun is setting or sets and the light is so golden. (Side note: this photo was featured top ten over at MCP Actions this week [week 32] of Project 52)

"Buttons"
This is the dash of a 1931 Ford. The dash was beautiful with all its buttons and gauges. Of course the car has been modified to facilitate with the temparatures in Florida and they have added A/C
(so that is an aA/C vent you see there...plus an added bonus...me)

IHF ~ Beautiful Eyes

"Beautiful Eyes"
I know that every grandmother thinks that their grandbabies are the cutest on the planet, and I am no exception. Well, if the truth be told, my grandkids are perfection (a statement that will be argued by my daughter and son-in-law since they endure daily lives with them LOL). Of course, as we all know (grandparents that is) the best part of spoiling those little darlings and loading them up with sugar and just pretty much letting them run all over of us, is that we get to go home at the end of the day. Leaving our little darlings to their parents!!

This photo of my grandaughter is probably going to be my favorite taken this year (so far). I converted it to B&W because I think in this form you can see the depth of her eyes, almost looking right into her little beautiful soul. This photo may not win prizes, but it perfectly depicts the beautiful almond shaped eyes and the innocence that will hopefully stay there for many years to come.

Another week as passed and another Scavenger Hunt Sunday is here. Can you believe it's already August? Of course August is always special to me because it's my birthday month, and although I try not to "count" my birthday's anymore, I still love my Birthday Day!! My husband and I have always celebrated "birthday week" where we get a little something (nothing big) everyday until the big day. It's always fun and I look forward to opening a little present everyday. Soooo, this Tuesday I celebrate the 7th anniversary of my 50th birthday!! I personally think that sounds better...... :)

This mini-bike is 38 years old. My 46 year old brother (on the bike here) got this mini-bike for Christmas when he was 8 years old. The bike has resided at my Dad's house now for a number of years and everytime we (he) visits my Dad's house the mini-bike comes out. It is baffling to all of us how the thing still runs.

I Heart Faces Challenge ~~ Friendships

I Heart Faces this week is all about Friendships. As soon as I saw the theme for this week I knew that this was the photo I wanted to post. This is Samantha and her cousin Jake. Jake and Sam are only a little over a month apart and they both turn two this year. Jake lives in Texas and his cousin Sam lives in Florida. This past July Sam and her family went to visit Jake. You see they hadn't seen each other in since Samantha's first birthday in September 2010, so it was indeed a very special visit for both of them. My husband and I happen to also be visiting at that same time so a photoshoot of these two cuties was in order. Could they be any cuter?

This week was not easy for me with the prompts. Between the heat (which makes me not want to be outside) and my knee still being just a little annoying, it made it hard to go in search. But, I did manage to get my prompts completed and it was definitely fun. See, my husband now asked me what the prompts are each week, so we make it fun that way too. Actually, he was the one that found the snake skin and told me (very proudly) that he had found "clear" for me. Gotta love him.

Had to go into the archives for this one since the only thing that came to my mind was my grandchildren's laughter and unfortunately it's been four weeks since I've seen them. But, this coming weekend we are driving down to take them to the Zoo. Can't wait.

This is 13 day old baby Louciana. Did her newborn photos just yesterday. She was an absolute delight and gave me so many beautiful images. It was an amazing afternoon.

Found this very clear snake skin on the front wall of our house, just a few feet from the front door. Eeeeeeek!!!!

Out of this World
I was going to wait to take some night shots of the moon or stars or whatever I could find, but just tonight we were driving to the store when I looked in the side mirror and saw this. I took out my Iphone (silly me I left my big camera at home~I should know better) and snapped this. I think this shot is out of this world since I have this addiction to the sky/stars/clouds, etc.

IHF Photo Challenge ~ Props

This week at I Heart Faces is all about "Props." I went through a bunch of photos and when I ran into this one I said Bingo!! I love this photo of my husband. He is always the willing prop himself but when we saw this phone booth we actually had someone unlock it so we could get in. This was taken in Kemah, Texas about two weeks ago when we visited my family out there. Ironically the colors on the back wall are the colors of Italy (and my hubby is Italian) Coinkidink??

Of course I think my husband rocks for always being such a great sport~~he is pretty cool.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday for July 17, 2011

Oh boy, this week was truly tough for me since I was laid up most of the week. With the exception of going to work I had to keep my leg up all week. Then this last Friday, I went to the Orthopeadic MD and had some fluid extracted from my (very swelled up) knee and then got a shot of steriod. Ugghhh... NOT FUN!! So, in view of that situation, I didn't have a chance at all to take any photos until today. I am glad to report my knee (leg) is much much better and I am looking forward this week to doing a Newborn Shoot. I am super excited!! I hope everyone has an amazing week.

It was a pretty decent day today so we decided to take a trip down to the beach (New Smyrna instead of Daytona). As we walked through the boardwalk I notice this elderly lady sitting on the bench smoking her cigarette and just enjoying the breeze. I really wanted to take her picture but didn't get the nerve up to ask her permission. So, as I left I shot this one from behind (I guess it was a bit sneaky, but I didn't get her face so I guess its ok).

I just loved the idea of this lady sitting there with her purse hanging on her shoulder just spending time on that bench enjoying the cool breeze off the water on this very hot day.

I had a bunch of shots for this prompt but after running them through my hubby (he is always such a help),
he picked this one.

This photo to me is just plain mysterious!!

We took a ride out to Spruce Creek Park and Campground today and discovered this beautiful pier.

It was an absolutely gorgeous, sunny, breezy day today and I was totally surprised that this section of the beach was this bare. I was glad for the solitude and with the exception of a few bikers and beach walkers, my hubby and I walked along the water and discoverd jellyfish and encounterd lots of birds fishing for lunch.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday this week was really fun since my husband and I took a road trip out to Houston, TX to visit my family (two brothers and their families).

We hadn't taken a "road trip" since last October when we also traveled to Houston for my baby brother's 40th Birthday. Everyone calls us crazy, but we truly love to hit the open road. We are already planning on next Road Trip!!

How lucky am I that we traveled to Houston, Texas this last week and we drove over the Fred Hartman Suspension Bridge and that it looks like a perfect "M"!! We drove over 980 miles to visit my family and got this shot!
Yes, I think I am a lucky girl. LOL

Yup......it's Scavenger Hunt Sunday!!

This week I actually got this post done on Saturday night. Since I will be on the road on Sunday and I didn't want to worry or be pressured to get it done before my usual Tuesday night at 10PM!! I guess I have come to own that last spot!! LOL

Our good friends Brian and Caroline are expecting their second child, a sweet baby girl. We went to the Historic Dunlawton Sugar Mill Botanical last weekend and I made some memories for them. They are incredibly in love with each other, with their son D and their unborn child, Louciana. I love this family so much and I am looking forward to meeting their precious daughter.

This (last) week my grandson turned 3 years old and we made another day run to Miami (its a four hour drive from Daytona) to see him blow out his candles! Happy Birthday to my precious grandson Luke!

Even though they are just little notes, I refer to them as love letters from my honey. See, he gets me flowers all the time and always attaches a note to them. I have an entire shoe box full of these notes and I cherish every single one of them.
He is a pretty cool guy!!

This is the Birthday Boy in full birthday cake BLISS!!! Oh the helmet?? Yes, he got a bike for his birthday along with the helmet (safety first), but now he won't take it off!! How cute is he??

I had a hugely busy week this last week. Ending with driving on Saturday to Miami (a four hour drive) to watch our grandaughter graduate from Pre-School! It was the cutest thing ever. So a good portion of Sunday was spent vegging on the couch!! LOL Here are this weeks interpretations of:

I didn't have time to go back onto the beach to take a current photo so this is one I took a couple months ago on the beach. It was totally dark on the beach and the effects from just the small amount of lights was phenomenal. Check it out....Exposure was over 2 minutes. Unbelievable huh??

This was the moon just last Thursday night. I love all the different shapes of the craters on the moon. It was amazing!!!

This is one of our local yard residents! Isn't he cute?

Nothing like fresh strawberries....especially in a smoothie. Yum!!

Childhood Memory
Okay you really made me go back with this one. I only have a handful of photos from when I was small (under the age of 6) because they all stayed in Cuba when my parents fled to the U.S. in 1960 (you doing the math? LOL) But of all the photos I could have, this one is the most precious to me. See, the is me laying up on my mother's lap (and that is my older brother looking very bored). I must have been 4 years old in this photo. All of my childhood memories of her involve nothing but fun times, happiness and lots of love. She loved life and cherished every moment with her children. She was a loving, warm, giving and just plain amazing person. She had seven children~~four daughters and three sons. Two born in Cuba and the rest born in the U.S.
She was 37 years old when we lost her.

This is my sweet, beautiful grandaughter at her graduation (from Pre-School) on Saturday. She was having so much fun with her class as they did their little performances for the audience.

This was just has she was getting ready to receive her trophy and medal for graduation. She has just seen me (and sister Desi) and was all giggly. I love this photo for so many reason and I am thankful and blessed to have witnessed (and captured) such a special moment in her little life. Can't wait to see her graduate from College!! Oh the tears.

This little guy and his brothers (and/or sisters) were believe it or not swimming (along with Mom) in the Disney Grand Floridian Pool. It was the sweetest thing. All of a sudden this little guy (or gal) just started flapping away and almost stood up in the water. Cutest thing ever.

Finding Form
This is one of the Chandeliers that decorate the lobby of the Grand Floridian Hotel. They are at least two stories high and I would have loved to have seen how they put the up there. At any rate, I stood directly under one of them, looked up and thought......Wow, Finding Form.....Bam!!!

Front Page of the News
In the newspaper dispenser machine on Sunday. You really can't really see it from this angle but the price of one newspaper is $1.00!! When did that happen?? I guess since we get our news from the Internet and TV I really didn't know how much a paper was these days.

It's Scavenger Hunt Sunday!!! I worked so hard this week on these and I have to say that "Isn't Ironic" was a tough one for me. Hope you enjoy my interpretations this week.

I did this project late last week and fell in love with it. I must have burned 300 matches. Although the timing was hard to get (just right) I loved all the different shapes it offered.

Although its not quite sprouting yet....these buds are almost ready to sprout into beautiful orchids.
(I got the plant from my sister and her fiance on Mother's Day)

Isn't it Ironic
It's totally ironic to me how my husband can own THIS many drill bits, and say I own too many shoes. HaHa

Okay...maybe I am picking on my poor hubby this week. But I find it to be a lazy habit of his when he never unties (or ties) his shoes, whether they are going on his feet or coming off.

Smells Like Spring
This is a gardenia off my gardenia bush. I am ecstatic that my plant survived (me~~since I kill every plant I lay my hands on) and it bloomed so many beautiful flowers this year.

IHF Photo Challenge - Pets

This week is "Pets" week at I Heart Faces and you are to feature your Pets. Unfortunately, my hubby and I don't have a pet but we are allowed to enter ANY animal/bird.

So here is my entry for this week. This is our neighborhood Red Shouldered Hawk. He has nested with his wife in a tree across the street. I am sure pretty soon we will be seeing all the babies learning to fly. Two Sunday's ago, my husband and I were out in the yard and we saw the hawk sitting in the middle of our back yard. I ran and grabbed my camera and slowly moved towards the hawk (very slowly) and sat on the ground about 20 feet from him. When I took this shot he flew by me at about ten feet away from me and about four or five feet off the ground. He is absolutely spectacular to watch. What is even more incredible about this shot and you can't see (because I cropped it out) is that Mr. Daddy Hawk is going back to the nest with lunch. Like in the movie the Lion King.......its the Circle of Life I guess.

Photo Challenge ~ Shadows

How strange that I only missed one week of the IHF challenge and it feels like I haven't joined in For-Ever!!! Anyways, this weeks challenge is "Shadows."

This is my very handsome grandson who was patiently waiting his turn to ride on the pony at Great Grandpa's house. (Grandpa owns ponies and the kids love going there and getting free rides all day) I love the way the shadow from the trees are hovering over him. And might I just add that I love love this little guy and I love love this photo of him. Okay...fine....I know....its just GRANDMA speaking!!! (But he really is a cutie)

Interesting story. We got thrown out of here (well kind of). Just to the right of this there was an empty parking lot where someone had set out about six or seven animal traps (they were trying to catch a bunch of cats). And as soon as we pulled into the parking lot and I got out of the car a lady walked towards us yelling......Are you here to feed the cats?...Don't feed the cats." I immediately told her that all I wanted was a shot of the building.....so I quickly snapped and left!! LOL Whew...so close to being arrested~~well at least it was that exciting in my mind. hehehe

I was born in Cuba and my family fled the island for freedom in Nineteen Sixty (1960). I grew up in Miami and Cuban Coffee was always a staple in our kitchen and it continues in mine. Although my hubby does not like it. LOL

This is a photo of the Daytona Speedway Track (Turn 3). It amazes me the speeds these car travel and considering the 33% of banking on those turns....It just makes me go.........Hmmmmmmmm what would it feel like to be in one of those cars???

Don't usually post pics of me but I thought this one was pretty cool. And it illustrates what I really call Me Time. An afternoon in a quaint little (nearby) town with camera in hand making pretty images. (And with my hubby of course)

Supermoon of 2011

The Supermoon of March 19, 2011. It was March 1993 that the last full moon was this big and close to Earth. (Perigee)

It was a perfect night on Daytona Beach to watch this phenomenon and the beach was filled with curiosity, anticipation and lots and lots of cameras. As soon as it appeared you could almost feel the excitment resonating from everyone on that beach. I am so glad I got to witness and capture it. Here are some of my photos of the Supermoon!!!

I know I've said this before (and recently) but, you could say that I have truly found a passion for night shots. It simply fascinates me. Of course there is also the fact that I work all day and have a limited window of time for any possible daytime shots, so I make do. But, in "making do" I have found an avenue that, at one time both scared and frustrated me. Now, I take it with ease and complete enjoyment and anticipation of the image that it will produce. I am always in awe the beauty of the sky right at sunset and up to an hour after.

It's magical to take in God's creation and to me it's mesmerizing.

Of course you add a few cars/headlights to the mix and I am one happy girl. =)

My husband is of Italian decent, so every Thursday is pasta night and every Sunday he gets his Pizza.
Of course he says the pizza down here is nothing like the ones up North. Is this true???? =)

Caught these bubbles on the garage floor as my husband was cleaning it. He through some soap down, water and started scrubbing. Of course I instantly made him stop so I could snap these.

The bubble had "JUST" popped as I snapped the shot and this is what I got.

There is actually a bubble on this one...it just doesn't show because of the angle.

I had a few really good shots of some cute little hands, some little feet, but I did however remember I had this shot of my two nieces. Left belly produced Miss Samantha and the right belly produced Mr. Jake!! It was such a beautiful experience for these two sisters to share their pregnancy's. I love these two beautiful young women and their perfect little babies.

I Heart Faces - Phone Photo Challenge

This week we are to use only our Cell Phone camera's. I can tell you that I use my phone camera everyday (and at any moment that I don't have my big camera with me). I am not kidding...right now I have 5000 photos in my phone. I know...I really should dump them on the computer...but who has the time!! LOL Anyways....Here my entry. We went to the hospital to see my daughter (she is doing well). We were waiting in the hallway (for the doctor to finish with her) and I was snapping pics of my hubby and me. When I saw one of those curvey mirrors.....this is me and that is my hubby in the back holding up the wall. I can assure you he was shaking his head behind me. LOLOL

When out to the beach (Daytona Beach) tonight (hubby in tow) to take some night shots. I was reading up on the "bulb" setting and of course I immediately wanted to test it out. I picked the beach because it was the darkest area we could think of without going out to far into the country. We were next to the Sunglow Pier and it was somewhat illuminated and there was the light from some of the buildings but we were really close to the surf. The moon was at about half tonight and provided some good light. I have included the settings.

In preparation of the upcoming most romantic day of the year, this weeks challenge is Hearts!!!

He's always there looking over me. He opens doors and holds my hand when we walk. He makes my breakfast every morning and makes sure to lay out my raisins evenly on my cereal. He empties the dishwasher, takes out the garbage without protest and fills my car. This man watches over me and protects the heart I gave him years ago. He has my heart.

{one} what was your favorite sitcom growing up?
Hmmmmm....at the risk of dating myself...Gilligans Island?? LOL

{two} what song always makes you happy when you hear it?
Anything Salsa. My feet instantaneously start moving and it makes me Happy!

{three} do you still have your wisdom teeth?
No and thankfully just had one. :)

{four} what is your go to way to relax?
Honestly, I have a hard time relaxing because I think I just always have to be doing something. But, that being said, I do love to pop in a good chick flick movie and sit on the couch with a nice glass of wine, tea or coffee....depending on the time of day.

{five} do you play any instruments?
No. I did take guitar lessons many years ago, but didn't stick to it. Wish I had.

{six} nude beaches: yes or no?
Absolutely NOT! One sure way of clearing any beach would be me naked on it!! LOL

Answer to question six is a definite NO!!

{seven} do you chew your pens/pencils?
No....never have.

{eight} can you change the oil in your car?
I would have to say that I have never changed the oil. But, if I had to I could and would. Thankfully I have a husband that takes care of all that. :)

{nine} can you curl your tongue?
Can't curl but I can twist it....

{ten} can you knit or crochet?
I can do both. Learned from my grandmother. I am not really good at it but I definitely can.

This is my sister Annette. Photo taken a little over a week ago, when Don and I visited Miami and we all went out to Mojitos (A Cuban Restaurant) for dinner and dancing. The hat she is wearing (which I think she totally pulled off) belongs to her boyfriend and everyone that night ended up with the hat on (and of course a picture taken). But this is my favorite by far. She has the most amazing eyes and I love her to pieces!!!

Headed down to sunny Miami (or so I thought) this last Saturday to photograph this growing family. As it turned out the day was overcast, uncharacteristically chilly and very windy!! I love clothes and shoe shopping. Although my husband would say SHOES!!

{three} what are your three favorite websites?
Honestly, I have alot that I frequent and LOVE, but the ones I hit the most are Facebook, I Heart Faces, and Love that Shot.

{four} what brand of tennis shoes do you prefer?
I don't wear sneakers much, but I love my New Balance.

{five} what food can you absolutely not stand to eat?
Holy Moly, just sat for a few minutes and could not come up with anything that I don't like to eat...LOLOL

{six} How many pairs of jeans do you own?
Probably 7-8 pairs but only half fit me right now and I refuse to throw them out yet. I will get into them again in six months .... Yes I will.

{seven} if you could have any job, what would it be?
I would love to be a Photographer for a magazine.

{eight} have you ever ridden in an ambulance?
No, Thank God.

{nine} how many pillows do you sleep with?
Usually start off with two but end up with one by morning

3. I need help in the organizing area. I know where 80% of things are located, its the 20% I need help. My house is always, always tidy but things might not be put back where they belong all the time. HELP!!

This week's challenge is extremely "challenging" for those of us who live in Florida (which was the only state last week that had no snow on the ground). The theme this week in Winter Wonderland!! Another night of playing with water. Love how some of these turned out (as if I had any control of what the drops will do LOL) but none the less they are pretty cool. Had a much harder time getting a good focus even though I did do it manually. So here are a few more and I think I will be done with this for now .......... well..maybe. I followed a link she had to Jill's (Forever n Ever n Always ) blog where there she has a tutorial on how to accomplish this; so I read it and went for it. Here is my take on the water drops. Joining Ashley (Ramblings and Photos) and posting my interpretations on this weeks Scavenger Hunt Sunday. First time doing this so (be kind) LOL. Not too sure what the rules are yet but I will catch on. We will see how this goes!!

1. This is Me
This is me using my nifty remote. Corney I know.

2. Resolutions
My resolution (one among many) is to be a little more organized. My husband will laugh at that one (Bless his kind, loving heart).

3. Treasured
I love this man more than I can ever tell him. He will pose for me anywhere, anytime. Not that he likes his picture taken, but he will do it for me anyways. He is a good man.

4. Innocence
I posted this photo on my blog and ironically referred to it as innocence (referring to Christmas). This is my grandson and the look in his eyes just screams innocence to me.

5. Primitive
I was going to post my photo again here (referring to primitive LOL) but I guess that wouldn't count. So instead I found this sword, which my husband told me, that his Dad claimed that it came from some Italian war or something. But, nevertheless its pretty old.
